After loading the video, WordPress started acting funny and thus I decided to break it and start anew.
Since there was a plenty of time, I decided to have a beer before boarding.
At 3:30 p.m. I walked over to the gate and found that the plane had not arrived with the following message.
Meanwhile I chatted with Kimmy about the Barcelona Manchester City game on WeChat and communicated with Li Jingke through text about the delay. It was another ten minutes before I saw the plane pulling into the gate and another delay update.
The plane was fully packed.
The flight itself was uneventful. I didn’t even bother getting water as I was in a window seat. It landed around 7 p.m. After picking up the car rental agreement, I walked to the stall numbered 122 but could not find the key nor match the license plate number. Walked back to the Hertz counter and told the agent that I could not find the key and the license plate number didn’t match. He said that the key should be on the dash board and it should be the right car. Back to the car again and found the key. Also, figured out that Hertz printed two W’s in front of the license plate number to indicate that the car was registered in Washington state. Since there was no space between the letters and the license plate number, I mistook them them as part of the license plate number. One mystery solved, another showed up: the key had no teeth! Placed the key close to the ignition switch and the system was activated. However, it’s not clear how to turn the engine on. Finally saw the instruction in a very small size on the dash board display: press the brake and push the ignition switch. Then Li Jingke called, with whom I had been texting since landing, and I told him that I just got into the car. He said that it’s perfect as he had changed the reservation to 8 p.m. and I should be able to just make it as there was no traffic. The car was equipped with a GPS device but decided to use my phone instead as I didn’t want to waste more time to figure out how it worked.
The restaurant looked very trendy.
It’s an Italian restaurant. We or they ordered (I said that I would go with anything) in family style, meaning we shared everything. The wine was good and the food was excellent. Arrived at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lake Oswego around 11 p.m. While looking at the beers at the hotel concession stand and a guy looking for wines asked if I was a wedding necklace. Then he showed me his golden necklace with a golden hanging on it and said that he’s married to a Chinese and that was his wedding necklace. He sounded like he believed that a wedding necklace was required. As I was not sure if it’s a custom somewhere in China so I didn’t say that I had never heard such a requirement.
